BRIGHT. Jaydee Tungcab and Bright Akhuetie will bolster an already promising UP lineup in Season 80.
The University of the Philippines continues to stockpile weapons for the present and future collegiate wars.
Jaydee Tungcab, who played for Adamson University in the past two seasons, will now don the maroon and green for the Fighting Maroons.
“Yes, UP na po ako,” Tungcab himself told ABS-CBN Sports.
Maroons’ mentor Bo Perasol also confirmed the development. And he was nothing but glad with the impending addition as he said, “If he realizes his full potential, he will be a big addition to our backcourt rotation.”
The versatile swingman was once considered a key cog for the resurgence of the Soaring Falcons before an up-and-down Season 79.
In two years in San Marcelino, he averaged 6.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists..
Last March, Adamson head coach Franz Pumaren said that Tungcab has left the team.
Three months after, the six-foot-three slasher’s exodus led him to State U where he will join up with an already promising core already made up of Diego Dario, Paul Desiderio, Javi and Juan Gomez de Liano, Jun Manzo, and Noah Webb.
Transferring from one UAAP team to another, however, Tungcab will have to sit out Season 80 and will only be eligible to play in Season 81. Then, he and Nigerian powerhouse Bright Akhuetie will turn UP into serious contenders.
