WEARING THE FLAG. Ben Mbala will represent Cameroon in the 2017 FIBA Afrobasket.
Ben Mbala will be back to lead De La Salle University in its bid for back-to-back championships in the oncoming UAAP 80 UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament.
But before he can do so, he will first be helping Cameroon in its campaign in the 2017 FIBA Afrobasket.
The reigning MVP will suit up for his home country as they see action in the regional tournament that runs from September 8 to 16 in co-host countries Senegal and Tunisia.
This means that he is most likely to miss the Green Archers’ first two assignments in UAAP 80 which are against Far Eastern University on September 10 and then against National University on September 16.
At present, Mbala is in Brazil for Cameroon’s training camp.
He and his national team, which placed ninth in the 2015 FIBA Afrobastket, have been grouped with host Tunisia as well as Guinea and Rwanda this time around.
On the other hand, DLSU is currently in Davao for their own training camp.
In his MVP campaign a season ago, the six-foot-eight center averaged 20.6 points, 16 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks.
