Lee says preseason championship is proof all is well in UST
ALWAYS A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING. At long last, Marvin Lee and UST have taken their very first title under the guidance of head coach Boy Sablan.

While the 2017 Kadayawan Tournament will be remembered for the brawl between De La Salle University and Far Eastern University, another UAAP team will be remembering it as their breakthrough.

University of Sto. Tomas came away as champions in the annual tournament, defeating Davao All-Stars, 87-76, last Sunday.

This means that the Tigers were the top team in the invitational – and not UAAP rivals Green Archers or Tamaraws.

More than that, Espana can also boast of having the best player in the tournament in Marvin Lee.

And Lee is nothing but confident that the preseason championship will only translate in the oncoming UAAP wars. “Malaking dagdag sa confidence po yung panalo namin dun,” he said.

The third-year guard then went on to say that the team’s morale is sky-high just a week before the start of Season 80. “Kumpyansa po kaming kayang-kaya naming manalo,” he expressed.

Along with the confidence boost, Lee said they are also glad to have taken the title to show that all is well in the Tigers’ camp. “Tingin po namin, napatunayan po naming maayos naman lahat sa amin,” he said.

In the preseason, UST head coach Boy Sablan was accused of subjecting his players to tongue-lashings and verbal assaults. There were also reports of “a crisis in Espana.”

At the same time, longtime players Embons Bonleon and Renzo Subido decided to leave the team.

Those who remained, however, only came to the defense of their mentor.

And now they have won their first championship under the guidance of Sablan, the Tigers are all set to growl once more. “Readyng-ready na po kami,” Lee said.
