THERE'S A DIFFERENCE. New coach Jamike Jarin will be bringing "40 minutes of hell" to NU and the UAAP.
National University will no longer be a half-court team.
Under new head coach Jamike Jarin, the Bulldogs will be chasing both the ball and their opponents all over the court. “Takbo, takbo, takbo, yun ang gusto ni coach,” team captain J-Jay Alejandro shared.
And they will be doing it all game long. “Coach Jamike will be pressing us for 40 minutes so we’re gonna cause chaos,” Matt Salem added.
Asked if he really meant chaos and not mayhem, he answered, “Not mayhem, we’ll cause chaos. We’re gonna have an uptempo game, we’re gonna keep running, we’re not gonna relax.”
That is quite the departure from the NU of recent times which ran its offense through pointmen like Gelo Alolino and Revrev Diputado and enforced a defensive scheme anchored by hulking Alfred Aroga. “Yun talaga ang mahirap na adjustment kasi for four seasons, kilala kami as a halfcourt team,” Alejandro shared.
He then continued, “Ngayon, 40 minutes of hell na kami.”
In fact, the Bulldogs of last season were fifth out of eight teams in terms of pace and sixth in terms of points per game. As their team captain put it, “Ako, I love the system of coach Jamike. And ever since naman, we love coach Jamike mismo.”
He also added, “Sa amin, we welcomed him with open arms.”
Salem could only agree. “Coach has a great relationship with everyone on the team and now, everyone’s bonding and coming together. Ever since coach came in, there has been lots of improvement with us,” he said.
