RESPECT. Jamike Jarin will once again challenge Aldin Ayo - this time, in the UAAP.

De La Salle University has not even taken the floor and yet, they are already being hailed as the top team in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

And that is coming right from the mouths of, technically, the top team in the standings in National University.

“They’re the defending champions and they’re a force to reckon with,” head coach Jamike Jarin said. “They’re probably the best college team right now.”

Indeed, that may very well be the case as the Green Archers return a core of MVP Ben Mbala, Rookie of the Year Aljun Melecio, team captain Kib Montalbo, as well as talents like Andrei Caracut, Prince Rivero, and Ricci Rivero.

Unlike the Bulldogs who are already 1-0, however, the defending champions are yet to see action in the tournament as their first game is on Sunday up against Far Eastern University.

As fate would have it, NU’s next assignment is DLSU a week from now. “That’s why we need to ready ourselves for DLSU,” the head coach said.

Fortunately for the new head coach, he will have one week to prepare as he rekindles his personal rivalry with Aldin Ayo of the Green Archers. “We’ll rest our bodies tomorrow then we’ll prepare. We’ve got tomorrow to really finalize things and we’ve got a week to get ready,” Jarin said.

The two coaches have a colorful past that stretches back to 2015 when they went head-to-head in the NCAA with Ayo calling the shots for Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Jarin on the sidelines for San Beda College.
