National University cruised past University of the Philippines Integrated School to open its four-peat bid.
University of Sto. Tomas grabbed the solo lead while National University opened its four-peat bid on a high note Monday in the 80th UAAP girls volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Eya Laure led the Junior Tigresses to its second straight win in as many outings as they turned back De La Salle-Zobel, 25-23, 27-25, 25-23.
Laure, who is on her final year with UST, nailed the match-clinching win to complete the Junior Tigresses comeback from a 10-17 deficit in the third frame.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bullpups drew strength from reigning Most Valuable Player Faith Nisperos and Alyssa Solomon with an emphatic 25-4, 25-13, 25-8, demolition of the hapless University of the Philippines Integrated School.
The Lady Bullpups, who lost last year’s veterans middle Thea Gagate and top hitter Princess Robles, easily sliced through the much smaller Junior Lady Maroons.
The Junior Lady Spikers, who defeated Far Eastern University, 25-17, 16-25, 25-23, 25-22, Sunday, dropped to 1-1 slate.
UP absorbed its second loss in as many outings.
