TRADITION. In 2016 and 2017, DLSU has dedicated its victory versus NU to Our Lady of Penafrancia.
De La Salle University bested National University in a shootout at the Araneta Coliseum on Saturday.
And the first words out of the mouth of Aldin Ayo were, “First of all, all year long and even last season, our team has been asking for the intercession of Mother Mary. Tomorrow is the feast day of Our Lady of Penafrancia so we dedicate this game to Mama Mary.”
The Our Lady of Penafrancia housed in Naga is one of the more famous Marian pilgrimage sites in the country. And so, Sorsogon native Ayo has apparently brought to Taft Avenue a thing or two about Bicolano culture.
This is not the first time the Green Archers’ win was dedicated to Our Lady of Penafrancia.
The same time a year ago, DLSU came away with a 75-66 win on the feast day itself of Our Lady of Penafrancia.
The team they defeated? The Bulldogs.
Meaning, DLSU is unbeaten against NU in their matchups scheduled during the feast week of Our Lady of Penafrancia.
With that kind of unique record, the Green Archers may very well have a higher being looking out for them.
