Tolentino lifts Tamaraws to victory vs still winless Tigers
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER. Arvin Tolentino and FEU needed three quarters to get going - but once they did, there was no stopping them.

Arvin Tolentino took the ball and rest of Far Eastern University ran with it as they bounced back into the winners’ circle in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Tolentino scored seven of his 15 points in the pivotal push bridging the third and fourth quarters that boosted the Tamaraws past University of Sto. Tomas, 78-65, on Saturday at the MOA Arena.

Tolentino was joined by four other teammates in the 18-0 blast that erased a three-point deficit late in the third and erected a 63-48 advantage in the middle of the fourth. “Good to see another good game from him,” a satisfied head coach Olsen Racela said post-game.

FEU would not look back from there all the way to their second win in four games. “Hindi ko alam na ganito pala sa UAAP, it’s hard to get wins. I told the players to grind it out and kailangan, pagpaguran namin lahat,” their mentor said.

Ron Dennison chipped in 15 points of his own and seven others each added somewhere between five to eight points.

In their 29-point final frame, seven Tamaraws contributed in the scoring column.

That was more than enough for them to overcome a sluggish start that saw them fall behind by as much as 10 in the second quarter. “We came out flat kahit na sinabi ko sa kanila, they need to come out with intensity, energy, and effort. Sa second half na nangyari yun,” Racela said.

The head coach was also nothing but glad to see his pressure defense force 24 turnovers that led to 30 points.

Along with the bounce back win, the Morayta-based squad also piled onto the misery of their rivals from Espana who are yet to win in four tries.

Jeepy Faundo topped the scoring column for the Tigers with 16 points on top of 11 rebounds.

However, Marvin Lee and Steve Akomo struggled for the second straight game only with a combined nine points and 11 rebounds.
