Lady Paddlers secure Final Four berth
De La Salle University solidified its women's table tennis title-retention bid by claiming the first semifinals seat.
Women's titleholder De La Salle University secured the first Final Four slot, while defending men's champion University of Sto. Tomas solidified its hold of top spot in the UAAP Season 80 table tennis tournament Sunday at the UP CHK Gym.
The Lady Paddlers defeated National University, 3-0, and Far Eastern University, 3-1, right after opening the second round campaign with a 3-0 win over University of the Philippines Saturday.
Undefeated in 10 ties, DLSU also stayed on course for an outright passage in the best-of-three Finals.
The Growling Tigers beat University of the East, La Salle and NU all via identical 3-1 scores to extend its winning streak to nine after a season-opening defeat to the Bulldogs.
The Tigresses, who placed second behind the Lady Paddlers in the first round, rebounded from last Saturday's 2-3 loss to the Lady Tamaraws with 3-0 shutout wins over the Lady Warriors and the Lady Maroons for a 8-2 card.
Running second in men's is NU, which after its loss to UST Saturday turned back Adamson University and FEU in succession via similar 3-1 scores.
Action resumes on Wednesday with the morning session at 8:00 a.m. and the afternoon ties at 1:00 p.m. at the same Diliman venue.
