BIG UPS. Ben Mbala had nothing but good words for Alvin Pasaol who had just dropped 49 points on him and DLSU.
For the third time in a row, Ben Mbala set a career-best scoring output.
With 39 points on top of 15 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, the reigning and defending MVP yet again powered De La Salle University to back-to-back wins.
Flanking him was fellow frontcourt player Abu Tratter who also tallied his own career-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
However, the story of the day wasn’t the Green Archers’ win, wasn’t Mbala’s third straight career-high, wasn’t Tratter’s best game ever.
Rather, it was University of the East’s Alvin Pasaol and his 49-point outburst who grabbed the headlines.
Pasaol poured in 49 points in ultra-efficient 20-for-30 shooting, recording the most points by a single player in a single game since 2002.
The Red Warrior was so impressive that he even got props from the reigning and defending MVP himself.
Asked about that instance, he answered, “I told him to keep working. He did a good job and when a guy plays well, you have to acknowledge him.”
He then continued, “It’s a game of basketball after all. We have to enjoy and I have to congratulate him for his career-high.”
For Mbala, however, the DLSU defense has much improvement to do after being scored on like that. “He was just in the zone, but I feel like we didn’t do a good job in stopping him. Knowing La Salle is a defensive team, for a guy to drop 50 on us…,” he said before trailing off.
He then continued, “If a guy is in the zone, we have to take him out of the comfort zone.”
