Tigresses, Lady Tams remain unbeaten
Sisi Rondina and Caitlyn Viray of University of Sto. Tomas kept their winning streak going in Day 2 of the 80th UAAP women's beach volleyball tournament.

Powerhouse teams defending champion University of Sto. Tomas and Far Eastern University kept their unblemished records intact in Day 2 of the 80th UAAP women’s beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM by the Bay Friday.

The tandem of reigning Most Valuable Player Sisi Rondina and Caitlyn Viray delivered the Tigresses’ third win in as many outings after a quick work of Ateneo de Manila University’s Bea De Leon and Jules Samonte, 22-20, 21-15.

Rondina, who teamed up with Jem Gutierrez last year for the Espana-based squad’s fourth crown overalla, felt that they still have a lot to work on to.

“Kanina sa performance namin sobrang kulang pa, 'di namin alam kung ano ang ginawa namin pero siguro kulang sa mindset (wala kami sa focus)," said the fourth year Rondina. "(But) I always think po na kung 'di ko kaya or 'di niya (Viray) kaya, nagdadalahan kami, we got each other's back.”

The Tams pair of Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza, who finished runner-up last year, needed to comeback from a set down to defeat the De La Salle University tandem of Tin Tiamzon and May Luna, 21-23, 21-13, 15-10, for a 3-0 win-loss record.

DLSU and Ateneo dropped to 1-2 slates.

University of the East’s Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat earned their first win in three outings while handing the listless National University pair of Romajoy Doromal and Audrey Paran their straight loss in a 21-14, 71-21, 15-11, decision.

University of the Philippines' Diana Carlos and Ayel Estranero turned back Adamson Bernadette Flora and Chrislyn Uy, 21-13, 23-21, for a 2-1 slate. Adamson dropped to 1-2 mark.

In men’s play, KR Guzman and Anthony Arbasto of defending champion UST claimed their second win in as many games with a 21-14, 21-12 win over Adamson’s Paolo Pablico and John Yude.

NU won its second straight match at the expense of UE, 21-14, 21-20; last year’s runner-up FEU bounced back from an opening day loss with a 21-9, 15-21, 15-12 win over Ateneo; while UP topped DLSU, 21-17, 21-12, for a 1-1 card.

The Blue Eagles slid to 1-1 mark tied with the Green Spikers while the Falcons and Red Warriors remained winless in two games.
