POWERHOUSE. Ben Mbala is on pace for back-to-back MVPs.
Ben Mbala remains the top individual player in the league after the first round in the UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Compiling 98 Statistical Points (SPs) despite having just played five of the seven games, De La Salle University’s main man is, far and away, at the lead in the MVP race,
With a league-best 30.4 points per game to go along with third-best averages of 11.8 rebounds and two blocks, Mbala has more than 30 SPs on his closest competitor. Also helping his case is his team’s 5-2 standing.
The Cameroonian missed the first two games of the season after fulfilling his duties for their national team.
A year ago, his norms of 20.6 points, 16.2 rebounds, 2.4 blocks, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 assists proved to be more than enough for the MVP.
Still with one round to go, however, second-running Thirdy Ravena of Ateneo de Manila University has more than enough time to close in.
The third-year Blue Eagle has 66.0 SPs built on per game counts of 14.9 points and 8.9 rebounds all while showing the way to an immaculate 7-0 slate.
Rounding out the top five are Adamson University’s Papi Sarr, National University’s J-Jay Alejandro, and University of the East’s Alvin Pasaol.
