Alejandro’s 16-10-8 goes to waste as NU fails to fight
HELP WANTED. J-Jay Alejandro did his best, but his best wasn't good enough.

J-Jay Alejandro gave it his all on Saturday and almost had a triple-double with 16 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds.

And yet, National University still fell for the fourth time in the last five games.

For the team captain, of course, his numbers don’t matter. Asked about being two rebounds shy of a triple-double, he answered, “’Di ko alam. Seryoso? Wala akong idea.”

He then continued, “Nasa isip ko lang is habulin, manalo. Wala e. Kinulang.”

Unfortunately, all of the Bulldogs just didn’t have enough against rejuvenated University of the East. “’Di namin nasunod yung game plan. Yung iba sa amin, out of focus,” Alejandro said.

Making matters worse, neither the skipper nor head coach Jamike Jarin saw any fightback from their team. “Tulad naman ng hinahanap ni coach Jamike sa amin, lumaban lang kami. Manalo, matalo, we don’t care about the result, basta lumaban kami,” the former said.

He then continued, “This game, wala. Walang lumaban (sa amin) ngayon.”

Indeed, the closest NU could come was 65-70 inside the last seven minutes only to see a Red Warrior lineup without both Alvin Pasaol and Philip Manalang go on a 9-2 counter.

From there, the Bulldogs would not be able to threaten.

From there, the Bulldogs’ struggles yet again appeared.

Still, Alejandro said they are not losing hope even though they find themselves at the sixth spot, holding a 3-5 card. “We know we have six games pa and ‘di pwedeng ako yung unang mawalan ng pag-asa. I want na matapos yung season ko na ‘di kami magkakahiwalay,” he said.

He then continued, “Babawi na lang talaga kami.”
