Tigresses keep growling after taking down Lady Falcons
University of Sto. Tomas is continuing to wield its claws as the second hottest team in the UAAP 80 Women’s Basketball Tournament.
With Sai Larosa and Bets Penaflor both posting double-doubles, the Tigresses mangled Adamson University, 88-65, on Sunday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Larosa had 10 points and 12 rebounds while Penaflor had 17 markers and 12 boards to make sure their squad stayed hot with what was their fifth consecutive victory.
Still, it took until the last six minutes for them to break the game wide open with Larosa’s back-to-back triples punctuating a 19-2 rush that put them on top, 81-63. “We started strong nung second half and that gave us the momentum nung fourth quarter. The girls never gave up,” a satisfied head coach Haydee Ong said.
With two minutes to go from there, the Lady Falcons would not be able to threaten anymore.
Anjel Anies and Jhenn Angeles fired 22 and 15 points, respectively, of their own, for now 7-1 UST.
Nathalia Prado paced Adamson with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double. all of it still proved far from enough, however, as they dropped to a 3-5 standing.
