Birthday boy Arvin Tolentino led the FEU Tamaraws charge in the fourth quarter to a victory, and more importantly, a greater chance of making the Final Four.
Arvin Tolentino, who celebrated his 22nd birthday today, was just happy that he was instrumental in leading the FEU Tamaraws' charge early in the fourth that saw them come victorious against the UE Red Warriors, 79-63.
Of his 10 points in the game, the third-year stretch forward made them count when needed, as he scored seven in the fourth quarter. Of those seven, four came from a four-point play which saw the Tamaraws' lead balloon to 13, with over three minutes left in the game.
Though his stats were not special enough to make his birthday a very memorable one, he was more than pleased to help give a 6-6 record to FEU as they remained in the hunt for a seat in the Final Four.
“Nagkataon lang sa akin bumabagsak ang bola, pero you know, we try to play as a team, within sa system ni coach [Olsen Racela],” Tolentino said after the game.
On his performance, Tolentino was content that the team bounced back late in the second half, after a rough battle with the Red Warriors in the first, and luckily for him, his special day was not spoiled.
With their Final Four fate still up in the air, Tolentino said that the Tamaraws will not rely on the performance of another contender, the UP Fighting Maroons, in order to determine their chances of making the postseason.
“Ayaw namin mag-rely sa kalalabasan ng laban ng UP, gusto namin na kami ang gagawa ng paraan para makapasok sa Final Four, ang paraan na kailangan maipanalo ang three games left namin, then after that, tignan na lang natin kung ano mangyari sa UP. Hindi kami magrerely masyado sa nangyari sa kanila. Gusto namin sure.”
