Ateneo expects rough-and-tumble semis with FEU

Even though if the Ateneo Blue Eagles swept the eliminations, head coach Tab Baldwin said that they still have to catch the "golden apple" that is in front of them.
Ateneo Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin is expecting semifinals opponent FEU Tamaraws to be tough, but has no doubt that his players can step up when the need arises.
The Blue Eagles, who missed an opportunity of an outright Finals berth with a 79-76 loss against archrival La Salle, will treat FEU the same as every opponent who they defeated in their 13-game win streak in the eliminations of the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball tournament.
“We understand the importance of being ready for the next game,” the former Gilas Pilipinas head coach said after the game. “And that's not gonna change. We've set that template. We've been adhering to it all season long. We're not gonna stray from it now.”
FEU, who took Ateneo to the brink of elimination in last year’s semifinals wherein the Blue Eagles also had twice-to-beat advantage, will be very familiar with Ateneo, as they slugged it out in two quality games in the eliminations, as the boys from Katipunan came out victorious both times.
Though coming up short in the first sweep in the eliminations since the UE Red Warriors in 2007, Baldwin said that it was still not enough for the team, and especially himself.
“Even though if we won today, we got to leave it behind. The golden apple that we're still after is still in front of us. So, what really matters is the next game, right?”
The Final Four match between Ateneo and FEU will be on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the Araneta Coliseum.
