Will the Fireman come save UST's burning basketball program?

According to a reliable source who talked to Jarencio, the UST fan-favorite is ready to come home to coach the Tigers again.

If given the chance that is.

This is not the first time Jarencio has made his intentions to return to UST public. Around this time last year, the 2006 UAAP champion coach also put out feelers about a possible return to Espana.

However, now seems like the perfect time for Jarencio to actually come back.

In Season 80, in the second year of head coach Boy Sablan, the Growling Tigers went 1-13, winning their last regular season game by three points over the UE Red Warriors to barely avoid the school's first winless season.

In Season 79, UST went 3-11 under Sablan, the Tigers' worst season in the Final Four era prior to this year.

After Jarencio's exit and before Sablan came in, Bong Dela Cruz coached UST to a 5-9 record in Season 77 before making all the way to Game 3 of the UAAP Finals in Season 78.

He left under controversial circumstances after the Tigers' Finals loss to Nash Racela's FEU Tamaraws.

Since leaving UST after Season 76, Jarencio has been part of the Globalport Batang Pier in the PBA.

Just recently, he took over as the Batang Pier's head coach for a third time after Franz Pumaren took a leave of absence to focus on Adamson's Season 80 campaign.

Still, Pumaren is expected to get the Globalport job back once the Falcons wrap up their season. If that's not the case though, the source says that Jarencio is focused enough to take on both jobs if he does regain his former UST status as the Growling Tigers' head coach.

During his first stint in UST, Jarencio led the Tigers to three UAAP Finals, winning the UAAP title in 2006, the school's last championship so far.
