Baby Tams, Blue Eaglets remain unscathed
Sean Ildefonso dropped 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in Ateneo de Manila University's rout of UPIS.

Defending champion Far Eastern University-Diliman and Ateneo de Manila University primed up for their marquee clash next week with momentum-building rout of their respective foes Saturday in the 80th UAAP juniors basketball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Baby Tamaraws had a cakewalk – win over University of the East while the Blue Eaglets needed to overhaul an early nine-point deficit before crushing University of the Philippines Integrated School, 78-58, to climb to a four-way tie at the stop spot.

FEU and Ateneo tied University of Sto. Tomas and National University with 2-0 win-loss records.

Xyrus Torres drilled three triples in a 15-point performance while RJ Abarrientos and Daniel Celso had 12 markers each for the Baby Tams, who will take on the Blue Eaglets on November 26.

Abarrientos grabbed five rebounds and handed seven assists while Rei Tolentico and Royce Alforque had 10 markers each for FEU, which dominated the boards, 68-46.

The Junior Warriors absorbed their second defeat in as many outings despite the 13-point, 9-rebound effort of Agem Miranda.

Meanwhile, Katipunan-based squad stared at a 4-13 hole early in the duel before unleashing hell in the second quarter to build a 44-28 separation at halftime.

Ateneo controlled the game in the second half and even went ahead by 27 points, pounding the Junior Maroons from the inside with the trio of Jason Credo, Sean Ildefonso and SJ Belangel doing most of the damage.

Seven-foot-1 Kai Sotto had a quiet outing, scoring 11 points – all in the second half – while grabbing eight rebounds for Ateneo just a week after 24-point, 12-board and 7-block effort in an 82-64 win against Adamson.

Credo finished with 18 points, Ildefonso had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Belangal scored 12.

Matt Santiago posted 17 points while Rafael Labao got 11 markers for UPIS, which dropped its second match in as many games.
