UST Tigress Sai Larosa will be ceding her place in the Mythical 5 to teammate Jhenn Angeles
Sai Larosa’s breakout season did not end well.
Three days after she and University of Sto. Tomas were booted out of the UAAP 80 Women’s Basketball Tournament by University of the East, Larosa has been taken out of the Mythical Team.
Larosa, a second-year forward, placed fifth in the MVP race with 61.00 Statistical Points. That also placed her alongside MVP Jack Danielle Animam, Rhena Itesi, and Ria Nabalan of National University along with UE’s Love Sto. Domingo in the Mythical Team.
However, in the dying seconds of the matchup between the Tigresses and the Lady Warriors last Saturday, Larosa threw a punch at Sto. Domingo.
That then led to a scuffle that ended with UST’s Larosa and UE players Erica Ebeza, Princess Pedregosa, and Marieny Requiron getting ejected.
As per league rules, an ejection merits an automatic one-game suspension that will be served in the succeeding game. And as per league rules, a suspension disqualifies a player for individual awards.
And so, the Tigress has been deemed ineligible for a Mythical selection despite norms of 11.4 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks all while starring in the Tigresses’ playoff run.
As a consolation, though, Larosa will see teammate Jhenn Angeles take her place.
Angeles ranked sixth in terms of SPs and will now be awarded alongside Animam, Itesi, Nabalan, and Sto. Domingo before Game 2 of the Men’s Finals on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
