Jhenn Angeles ended her collegiate career as a Mythical selection in the UAAP 80 Women’s Basketball Tournament.

There were no smiles in the face of the University of Sto. Tomas guard when she received her award on Wednesday, however.

Asked about her nonchalant reaction even after her first individual honor, she answered, “Honestly, ‘di ako happy kasi hindi naman ito yung goal namin. Hindi kami nakarating ng Finals.”

The Tigresses won the first game in their stepladder matchup against twice-to-beat University of the East only to drop the do-or-die game.

And so, their breakthrough season came to a close as they were one win away from the Finals.

Along with that, Angeles’ spot in the Mythical Team once belonged to Sai Larosa. “Tapos dine-dedicate ko ‘to kai Sai Larosa kasi siya dapat yung nandito,” the former said.

Larosa, a second-year forward, placed fifth in the MVP race and well inside the Mythical Team.

However, in the dying seconds of their matchup against the Lady Warriors last Saturday, Larosa threw a punch at Sto. Domingo.

That then led to a scuffle that ended with Larosa and UE players Erica Ebeza, Princess Pedregosa, and Marieny Requiron getting ejected.

As per league rules, an ejection merits an automatic one-game suspension that will be served in the succeeding game. And as per league rules, a suspension disqualifies a player for individual awards.

And so, Larosa was deemed ineligible for the Mythical selection.

Still, Angeles said her teammate was nothing but happy for her. “Tinext ako ni Sai, kinongratulate niya ako,” she shared.

And she did nothing but return the kindness. As she put it, “Sabi ko naman sa kanya, yung award na ‘to, para sayo.”

In the end, the Mythical selection said she and UST are only proud of their breakthrough season. “Masasabi ko namang na-achieve namin kahit papano yung gustong mangyari ng coaches namin. For sure, nakita naman ng mga tao kung pano kami lumaban this season,” she expressed.
