Defending champions FEU halt NU in UAAP juniors football
Defending champions Far Eastern University claim the top spot in UAAP Season 80 Juniors Football
Keith Absalon netted four goals as reigning titlist Far Eastern University-Diliman overwhelmed National University, 5-0, to grab the top spot yesterday in the UAAP Season 80 juniors football tournament, Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Absalon struck in the 14th and 18th minute and added two more in the second half (53rd and 81st) to hike his league-leading goal total to six for the Baby Tamaraws, who are now level with the Bullpups with six points but took the top of the table with this win.
Gio Pabualan was the other FEU-Diliman goal scorer, producing the 44th minute strike.
Shanden Vergara scored twice as De La Salle-Zobel gained full points with a 4-0 conquest of University of Santo Tomas in the first match.
Vergara opened the scoring in the fourth minute and doubled the Junior Archers' lead with a stoppage time goal in the first half.
Agiel John Rojo and Joshua San Diego also found the back of the net late in the second half for De La Salle-Zobel, which tied its victims in third spot with three points.
Action resumes on Sunday at the PFF National Training Centre inside the San Lazaro Leisure Park in Carmona, Cavite, with NU taking on Ateneo at 1 p.m., to be followed by the 3:30 p.m. rematch of last season's Finals between FEU-Diliman and De La Salle-Zobel.
