It’s a new day in the UAAP 80 Cheerdance Competition.

The Adamson Pep Squad came out of nowhere to blow everybody out of the water in the 2017 edition of the event on Saturday at the MOA Arena.

The San Marcelino-based squad took everybody to the 1980s before taking its first-ever championship in the annual competition with a score of 663.50.

Wowing the crowd from start to finish with a perfectly pulled off routine, they bested dynastic NU Pep Squad, returning UP Pep Squad, and traditional powerhouses UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and FEU Cheering Squad.

With that, Adamson became the only the fifth member-school to bring home the UAAP CDC crown.

They continued their climb atop the leaderboard after a pleasant surprise of a third-place finish a year ago. That put an end to their 15-year absence on the podium.

The Falcons soared just as the Bulldogs’ were stopped in their quest for a record-tying five-peat.

The NU Pep Squad went under the sea with their number and, as always, went for a high degree of difficulty with their moves.

However, several of their lifts and pyramids did not come to fruition and they fell out of the top three altogether.

Meanwhile, barging back into the top three is UST behind a tiger-inspired performance that proved to be more than enough for 638.50 points.

Dedicating themselves to the UST community and its Growling Tigers, they seized second-place a season after missing out on the podium.

Not so triumphant with their return is UP which tried to tell the story of the Iskolar ng Bayan.

In the place of dynastic NU Pep and returning UP Pep, the UE Pep Squad scored the bronze medal with 634.50 points.

Their routine showing how a phoenix-like bird rose from the ashes turned into a reality as they placed inside the top three for the first time since 2002.

NU, the now-dethroned four-time champions, ended up in a tie for fourth-place with the FEU Cheering Squad with a score of 610.50.

UP, the winningest squad in UAAP CDC, settled for the sixth spot with 575.50 points.

Bringing up the rear is the DLSU Animo Squad at seventh and the Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion at eighth.
