Aldin Ayo's first and only contract, as of now, with DLSU is about to run out
Head coach Aldin Ayo is in the last month of his contract with De La Salle University.
As it turns out, he wasn’t under any contract in his first season in Taft Avenue and he only signed his first contract in September of this year. “I just signed a contract sa La Salle last September that will expire this December. I just signed a four-month contract,” he told reporters after the Green Archers wound up their Season 80 with a Finals loss to archrival Ateneo de Manila University.
He then continued, clarifying matters further, “Don’t misinterpret this ha kasi may (verbal) agreement kami (ng team management). Okay nga lang sa akin na walang kontrata kasi I trust the bosses.”
Ayo then went on to say that this disproves earlier reports about his contract offer when he transferred from Colegio de San Juan de Letran to DLSU. “I just want to clarify to you guys about yung kontrata ko sa La Salle. Hindi totoo yun; wala akong kontrata na nine million tapos three years,” he said.
Earlier reports from other media outlets stated that Ayo agreed to terms of three years for PhP 9 million to move from Intramuros to Taft Avenue.
Like he had been saying then, the 40-year-old Ayo again said that his decision to leave his alma mater was all because of a golden opportunity in basketball terms. “Lumalabas na ginagawa natin ‘to dahil sa pera. Nakakasira ng reputasyon e,” he said.
He then continued, “I have enough; simple lang yung lifestyle ko. I’m doing this because I love basketball and I just want to win.”
In the end, Ayo said he is nothing but thankful for the opportunity he has been given in his two years in green and white. “Actually, I’m grateful that I’m here. Yun talaga yun,” he expressed.
