Happy birthday to you, Aaron Black!
Ateneo de Manila University guard Aaron Black just got the best gift ever.
On Sunday, the third year player finally got to celebrate his first-ever UAAP basketball title in the best day possible – on his 21st birthday.
Black, son of former Ateneo coach Norman Black, was smiling from ear to ear when he emerged from the dugout of the Blue Eagles carrying the 80th UAAP men’s basketball championship trophy that ended the Katipunan-based squad’s five-year title drought.
“It’s crazy, I’ll never forget it for sure. It’s my 21st birthday today,” said Black after Ateneo dethroned archrival De La Salle University, 88-86, in Game 3 of the Finals series at the Big Dome.
“I’ll remember it for the rest of my life,” he added. “It’s my first UAAP championship today.”
Ateneo claimed its ninth title overall and first since coach Norman Black steered the Blue Eagles to a five-peat from 2008 to 2012.
“It’s been five years since the championship and I’m glad I’m a part of it,” said Aaron Black.
Black, who never got a chance to win a title as a Blue Eaglet in the Juniors division, finished his season with four points, three assists and a couple of rebounds.
And capped his birthday with a hard-earned title.
“I’ve been searching for this since I was in second year high school and finally I got it,” he said.
