Baby Tams held to scoreless draw; Jr Archers down Eaglets
UST kept FEU-Diliman scoreless for the first time this season.

Far Eastern University-Diliman battled to a goalless draw with University of Santo Tomas while De La Salle-Zobel turned back Ateneo, 4-2, yesterday to end first round action of the UAAP Season 78 juniors football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

The usually productive Baby Tamaraws failed to score without a goal for the first time this season, as the Tiger Cubs were able to share points with the defending seven-time champion.

FEU ended the first round on top of the table with 10 points, one clear of tournament newcomer National University, which finished second with nine points.

John Rey Lagura, Joshua San Diego and Miguel Basmayor's 44th, 58th and 62nd minute goals gave the Junior Archers a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Eaglets pulled one back, as Hugh Kendryx Lorenzo Soriano found the back of the net in the 76th minute goal.

De La Salle-Zobel, however, restored the three-goal cushion with substitute Sherwin Basindanan producing the 89th minute goal before Ateneo's Vinnie Vinculado struck in stoppage time for the final scoreline.

The Junior Archers moved up to six points in third spot, while the Tiger Cubs will enter the second round at No. 4 with four points. The Eaglets, without a point to show, are at the basement.
