Coach Bo Perasol wants UP to be all hands on deck as they prepare for next season
Javi Gomez de Liano and Jerson Prado had their names called in the 2017 PBA D-League Draft.
However, the two University of the Philippines players remain uncertain if they will suit up in the Aspirants Cup tipping off on January 18 at Pasig’s Ynares Sports Arena.
As it turns out, Fighting Maroons’ head coach Bo Perasol advised against his players joining the developmental league so they can focus on their preparations for the next season of the UAAP. “Yes, I suggested to the team (that they withdraw from the D-League),” he told reporters.
He then continued, “They will really have a hard time passing their classes if they’re going to miss those because of (D-League) practices and games. The second semester is very important in their eligibility for next season.”
State U wants no complications as it gears up for a hopeful campaign a year from now with an intact core of GDL and his brother Juan, Jun Manzo, and Paul Desiderio along with transferees Bright Akhuetie and Jaydee Tungcab.
For that to happen, all of them should pass their classes so there will be no problems with their eligibility.
GDL went to Wangs-Letran while Prado went to Gamboa Coffee-St. Clare in the rookie selection process on Wednesday.
Perasol’s advice also covered now PBA D-League veterans Desiderio, whose rights are with CEU, and Diego Dario, whose rights are with AMA.
