Alvin Pasaol will be maximizing his eligibility playing for the UE Red Warriors
University of the East is now the lone UAAP team without a head coach.
The good news for them is that they already have one important thing many teams still do not.
Make no doubt about it now, the red and white will be welcoming back main man Alvin Pasaol for Season 81. “Mag-stay pa po ako sa UE,” he told ABS-CBN Sports on Tuesday.
His statement answers questions as to whether or not he was staying in Recto following the departure of former coach Derrick Pumaren.
Last November, “Manong” resigned from his post, ending his four years at the helm of his alma mater.
It was thought then that Pumaren’s exit will also lead to Pasaol’s exit as the two have developed a close relationship with the latter saying that the former is like a son to him.
Now, however, UE can rest assured that it will still have its burly forward who famously scored a milestone mark 49 points up against De La Salle University.
Whoever will be their new coach can also rest assured that he will already have a building block to begin with – a building block who averaged 20.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.6 assists en route to a Mythical selection.
Pasaol will also be a building block who is set to gain valuable experience in the PBA D-League with Marinerong Pilipino. “Maglalaro lang po muna ako sa D-League para mag-improve pa lalo,” he said.
His coach there will be Koy Banal who just so happens to be one of the names being considered to take the reins of the Red Warriors.
UE is now the lone UAAP team without a head coach with the transfer of Aldin Ayo to University of Sto. Tomas and the appointment of Louie Gonzalez in DLSU.
