Blue Eagles gear up for UAAP Season 80
Ateneo de Manila is dead serious in claiming its fourth straight UAAP men's volleyball crown.
Ateneo de Manila University’s four-peat drive shifts into high gear as the Blue Eagles open their international training camp.
The Katipunan-based squad flew to Thailand Tuesday as part of its preparation for the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament that will open on February 3.
Ateneo is expected to face a tough opposition against a well-balanced field with other teams beefing up their rosters and training hard for the collegiate wars next month.
The Blue Eagles, who went undefeated last year to claim their third title at the expense of bitter rival National University, will open its campaign on February 4 against Far Eastern University at the Mall of Asia Arena, in a rematch of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Finals won by Ateneo last October.
“Ako kasi gusto ko talagang bumalik sa Thailand. We need that training para sa UAAP,” said Almadro in an interview after Ateneo captured the Collegiate Conference crown for his third straight PVL title after steering Cignal to claiming the Reinforced Conference and Open Conference crowns.
Four-time Most Valuable Player Marck Espejo, Karl Baysa and Ish Polvorosa hope to end their collegiate careers on a winning note, both expected to give their all for another championship run despite the graduation of veterans Josh Villanueva and Rex Intal last year and the absence of 6-foot-8 Tony Koyfman (academic problems).
