Louie Gonzalez will have a highly-esteemed staff backing him up in his first-ever head coaching stint
After guiding rookie mentor TY Tang, Siot Tanquingcen will now be tasked to help another first-time head coach get settled in.
Tanquingcen will be crossing Taft Avenue again, leaving the bench of College of St. Benilde for that of De La Salle University’s.
There, he will serve as seasoned assistant to first-time head coach Louie Gonzalez.
The 45-year-old Tanquingcen was the steadying hand behind Tang and the Blazers' maiden campaign which ended with a 4-14 record.
He was part of the Green Archers’ coaching staff in 2016 before taking the job under Tang.
Along with Tanquingcen, also flanking Gonzalez will be veteran tactician Glenn Capacio as well as youngster Anton Altamirano.
According to fan account Archers’ Clubhouse, Gonzalez was appointed as head coach of the Taft-based team right before the year 2017 ended.
Several sources within the team confirmed the development.
The post went on to say that team patron Danding Cojuangco himself appointed Gonzalez.
He takes over for Aldin Ayo who has transferred from DLSU to University of Sto. Tomas.
Longtime assistant Gonzalez has been Ayo’s first lieutenant in his one year in Colegio de San Juan de Letran and in his two years in Taft Avenue. He has been part of one NCAA championship and one UAAP championship.
As per Reuben Terrado of spin.ph, Gonzalez started his coaching career under the tutelage of then Knights mentor Binky Favis in the ‘90s. It was there that he and Ayo also began their deep bond.
The new Green Archers tactician also served as assistant for Kia and Globalport in the PBA, Philippine Patriots in the Asean Basketball League, and Far Eastern University in the UAAP.
