University of Sto. Tomas women’s volleyball team head coach Kungfu Reyes came to the rescue of injured hitter EJ Laure, clearing the malicious ‘pregnancy’ rumors that has been circulating after the Tigresses star decided to skip the coming 80th UAAP season.
Reyes reiterated that Laure, who was supposed to play her fourth year with UST, is suffering from a chronic shoulder injury and she needs time to rest to be able to play at her full potential for the Espana-based squad.
He was quick to defend his ward from the rumors circulating on social media stating different reason on why she was ruled out of the season, including a pregnancy angle. Laure is reportedly dating Kapamilya star Bugoy Carino.
“‘Yung huling usap nga namin, noong December nga, ‘yung shoulder,” he added.
Laure last played for Foton in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix a month ago.
“So that’s why ‘yung sa PSL, ‘di ba nakikita niyo sa service? So ganoon ang usapan namin noong Thursday, ah nung Thursday, ah to be exact, magki-Christmas ‘yun eh, siguro mga 21 or 22 ng December kami nagpaalamanan na ganoon ang mangyayari,” Reyes said.
The mentor also extinguished speculations that Laure was struggling on her academics as a reason for her skipping the coming UAAP tournament or that she was just redshirting to be able to play for two years alongside sister Eya.
“Ngayon aside from that malalaman namin kasi ang grades pa kasi paglabas ng portal nila, syempre hindi naman namin nasilip ang grades nila,” he said.
Reyes again stressed that Laure’s absence is due to an injury and nothing else.
The tactician added that he will stand by Laure’s side of the story.
