Shaya Adorador has one simple motivation heading into the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament.
Playing in her fifth and last playing year, the winger wants to have a graceful exit. A decent finish to erase the disappointing memories of her first four seasons.
In her stint with the Lady Warriors, Adorador endured two winless seasons before claiming her first victory in the UAAP in UE’s last game in Season 78 against Adamson University – a win that snapped the Recto-based squad’s embarrassing 58-game losing skid that lasted four years.
The Lady Warriors duplicated their mastery over the rebuilding Lady Falcons in the first round of the following season but fell into a string of setbacks to close Season 79. UE finished seventh with a 1-13 record – the Lady Warriors' best finish in half a decade since ending at sixth in Season 74.
Unfortunately, Adorador won’t have her batch mates Jasmine Alcayde and Angelica Dacaymat by her side. Alcayde sustained a knee injury while Dacaymat was cut from the line-up.
But despite this, Adorador remains positive of their chances this year.
“Ang goal lang talaga ay maka-fifth or fourth, OK na kami roon,” she said.
“Siyempre (this year) magiging competitive pa lalo (ang UE).
