Hindi ko po iniisip ‘yun eh, iniisip ko po talaga ang para sa team namin -- Jasmine Nabor on possibility of winning the Best Setter award
Individual accolades don't concern setter Jasmine Nabor.
The incoming third year player has her eyes set on the bigger prize: bringing National University to glory.
Playing behind the shadows of great setters in De La Salle University’s Kim Fajardo and Jia Morado of Ateneo de Manila University during her first two years as a Lady Bulldog, Nabor is expected to shine this year and is considered as one of the top contenders for the Best Setter award – a recognition long overdue.
But the heady playmaker just shrugged off the mention of her name for the most coveted citation for the UAAP's setters.
“Hindi ko po iniisip ‘yun eh, iniisip ko po talaga ang para sa team namin,” said Nabor as the Lady Bulldogs begin their campaign in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament starting February 3.
Nabor has yet to experience a Final Four in the UAAP after NU failed to advance in the semifinals in Seasons 78 and 79.
“Kailangan ang goal namin last year, same goal pa rin ngayon. Kailangan mapatunayan namin sa bawat isa and sa mga taong naniniwala and sumusuporta na kaya na ulit namin makapasok ng Final Four and pipilitin namin maglaro ng Finals,” Nabor said.
The 20-year old helped NU to a couple of titles in the commercial leagues – Collegiate Conference titles in the V-League in 2016 and Premier Volleyball League last year – and powered BaliPure to a PVL Open Conference conquest.
With these championships under her belt and with NU considered as a top title contender this UAAP season, especially with a more mature and seasoned lineup bannered by graduating 6-foot-5 do-it-all hitter Jaja Santiago, Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas and Jorelle Singh, Nabor admitted that there is pressure on her winning the Best Setter award.
“Minsan nape-pressure ako kasi ang daming nagsasabi na ganito, ganyan, pero hinahayaan ko na lang po,” she said.
“Siguro mas nagiging masipag lang po ako sa training kasi syempre kailangan ko rin patunayan sa kanila na ‘yun ‘yung tingin po nila sa akin,” Nabor closed.
