Far Eastern University hitter Rosemarie Vargas is ruled out of the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament after sustaining a left Achilles tendon injury a few days before the season opener on Saturday.
The school’s athletic department announced on its official Twitter account on Wednesday that Vargas, who last played for the Lady Tamaraws in Season 75, went through a reconstructive surgery on her ruptured Achilles tendon Tuesday and will be out for six to eight months.
Lady Tam Rose Vargas ruptured her left Achilles tendon and will miss UAAP Season 80. Reconstructive surgery was performed yesterday and we expect her to play again in 6 to 8 months. Get well soon and #BeBrave @HorsemariePower !— FEU Athletics (@FEUathletics) January 31, 2018
Vargas was supposed to play her on her last year with the Lady Tams on her return after skipping four seasons.
On Monday, Vargas reportedly sustained a muscle strain that will have her sidelined for the duration of the first round.
Vargas was in the official roster of the Lady Tams approved by the UAAP.
FEU will open the season against Ateneo de Manila University on February 4 at the MOA Arena.
