Eight volleybelles to look out for in UAAP Season 80
Watch out for these ladies this season!

The UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament is now upon us, and eight teams will battle it out in order clinch the title which the De La Salle Lady Spikers have been holding for the past two years.

Without further delay, we chose eight ladies, one from each team, to watch out for this season!

Ateneo Lady Eagles, Sydney Eleazar, Libero

Playing in a roster laden with veterans, the 20-year old Colegio de San Agustin product has a long way to go before she can be called an heir apparent to Lady Eagle libero Gizelle Tan.

With the Blue Eagles parading four liberos in their lineup, expect Eleazar to share her playing time with Dani Ravena, Vanessa Baguiwet, and Ria Lo, but for her fans, do not be sad, she stll has 3 more playing years after this season for her to have a chance to become a legend.

Watch Eleazar answer very random questions in the Ateneo version of Quick Set below!

Adamson Lady Falcons, Chiara Permentilla, Outside Hitter

The Fil-Italian hitter is being primed to take the reins of Queen Falcon from graduating Jema Galanza, and has already shown why.

In their PVL match against the Power Smashers last July, the Power Smashers, who were utilizing the services of NCAA MVP Jovie Prado and UST hitter Dimdim Pacers, could not do anything about the 20-year old's attack, as she soared her way to 24 points, and most importantly, the game-winning point.

The transferee from De La Salle Lipa stayed in Florence, Italy for four years, where she learned her volleyball skills from her mother, Aurea, herself a former volleyball player.

De La Salle University, Michelle Cobb, Setter

The second-year player out of St. Scholastica's College Manila has some pretty big shoes to fill for the two-time defending champions Lady Spikers, as she takes the spot of De La Salle legend Kim Fajardo.

With many eyes on her this upcoming season, the 18-year old has an interesting strategy as she takes on the grueling road of the 14-game elimination round, and possibly beyond by taking it one game at a time.

As the successor to Fajardo, the 5'4 Cobb has already learned valuable lessons from her ate for the upcoming season.

"The biggest lesson that I got from her was yung "puso" ni ate Kim. Sobrang buo ng puso niya. Very solid niya sa court, yun ang gusto ko i-carry this coming season."

Far Eastern University, Carlota Hernandez, Service Specialist

With FEU being considered as one of the Final Four contenders this upcoming season, led by skipper Bernadeth Pons, and the veteran play of Toni Rose Basas and Jerrili Malabanan, there will be times when the game is in need of crucial points in the clutch, or create a run that will spark their offense.

The 18-year old Hernandez will fill that role for head coach George Pascua, and will try to help with the firepower the FEU offense is expected to bring this season.

National University, Risa Sato, Middle Blocker

The Filipino-Japanese middle blocker, along with Jaja Santiago and Aiko Urdas forms one of the best frontline defenses in this upcoming season.

Her calm and always joyous demeanor proves to be a worthy decoy, as her bubbly personality masks her deadly kill-blocks and those booming quick hits.

Sato's performance has always be noticed, as she was even awarded the best blocker, and was a crucial contributor to the BaliPure Water Defenders' championship run in the PVL.

Look at this thunderous facial on Power Smasher Dimdim Pacres, where she immediately apologized to the opposing hitter.

University of the Philippines, Roselyn Rosier, Outside/Opposite Spiker

The 19-year old Rosier is one of the five rookies to be paraded by the new-look Lady Maroons, under new head coach Godfrey Okumu.

As a standout in Brent International School, Rosier caught the eye of former UP head coach Jerry Yee even before the rookie even stepped onto college.

Her excitement to in playing for the veteran coach has been 'quite overwhelming', and hopes that she can absorb information like a sponge from her ate Isa Molde, who has decided to put Rosier under her wing.

University of the East, Seth Rodriguez, Middle Blocker

The towering third-year player out of Del Pilar Academy in Cavite was a key component in Francis Vicente's frontline defense, as the coach used her 5'10 frame to swat everything away.

From being in the farthest parts of the bench, Rodriguez has proven her worth as a key player in the rotation, and her defense will help in the Lady Warriors' quest to win.

University of Santo Tomas, Milena Alessandrini, Open Spiker

The Fil-Italian rookie Milena Alessandrini has caught the eye of many volleyball enthusiasts even before she could even step on the volleyball court.

Her 6'1 frame, which will be very deadly in her open spiker position, and may even become a key component in coach 'Kung Fu' Reyes' attack.

Alessandrini is said to be so intimidating, that even UST team captain Sisi Rondina felt intimidated by her, and that she even thought that her spot would be taken by the rookie.

If she and Rondina can co-exist, the Tigresses will be a very tough team this season.
