UAAP 80 VOLLEYBALL: Hindi ko naman hinahabol na gawin nya yung ginagawa ni Kim Fajardo -- DLSU coach Ramil de Jesus on setter Michelle Cobb
De La Salle University head coach Ramil De Jesus gave sophomore setter Michelle Cobb a passing grade in her debut as the Lady Spikers' main playmaker.
De La Salle University sophomore Michelle Cobb was impressive on her first start as the Lady Spikers’ main playmaker.
In her debut match filling up for the spot left by Kim Fajardo, Cobb tallied 37 excellent sets in DLSU’s 25-20, 17-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-8, win against University of Sto. Tomas Saturday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
Cobb did a decent job but head coach Ramil De Jesus saw things that the 18-year old setter should improve on as the tournament progresses.
“Sa ngayon passing grade pero kasi nga marami akong nakikita na, hindi ko naman hinahabol na gawin nya yung ginagawa ni Kim Fajardo pero ang sa akin kasi kung ano sya, kung ano yung style nya, i-improve nya yung style nya,” he said of his ward, whose 37 excellent sets came off 116 attempts.
“Then siguro, wag yung more on, siguro more on ano lang sya basta maitaas lang yung bola,” he added. “Mas maganda siguro yung mas nadidiskartehan nya nang husto yung set nya. And at the same time, hinahanapan nya kung paano magkakaroon ng open block or single block yung spikers.”
Cobb, who had six points off four aces and a couple of kill blocks including the game-clinching denial on Tigresses star Sisi Rondina, agreed with her coach’s assessment and was just thankful for the trust given to her by De Jesus.
“As in sobrang nakaka-up siya especially kasi nafifeel ko na he really trusts me and believes in me,” said Cobb. “’Yun pa lang nakakagana na maglaro.”
