Hindi naman totoo 'yung sinasabi nila and nasa kanila na lang ‘yun, kung ano gusto nilang sabihin -- injured UST star EJ Laure on rumors of her skipping the UAAP season.
Injured University of Sto. Tomas star EJ Laure broke her silence two months after her decision to sit out the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
The Season 77 Rookie of the Year watched the Tigresses’ opening-day match against defending back-to-back champion De La Salle University at the MOA Arena from the sidelines with a sling on her right hand. UST dropped a five-setter, 20-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 8-15, decision.
Laure and UST announced last December that Laure will sit out her supposedly fourth playing year to rest and fully recover from a chronic right shoulder injury.
But rumors of her absence circulated on social media. Some speculations was that of academic difficulties, some about her intentionally redshirting to be able to play alongside sister Eya for two seasons while a malicious angle of her being pregnant also circulated.
“Siyempre siguro tao din naman sila, meron silang sariling opinyon. Hindi ko naman maiiwasang wag sabihin sa kanila na, 'wag, 'di ganoon. Sa kanila na rin 'yun,” said Laure, who was with rumored boyfriend Kapamilya teen star Bugoy Carino.
“Ewan ko kasi parang hindi naman totoo 'yung sinasabi nila and nasa kanila na lang ‘yun, kung ano gusto nilang sabihin,” she added. “Kasi siyempre tao din naman sila, may sarili silang opinyon.”
Laure cleared that she has been nursing a shoulder injury since last season and she decided to skip a year to fully recover and heal.
“Di ba last year parang nagpa-injection ako. After noon, ilang days pa lang, umalis agad kami for Thailand. So hindi ako nakapag-therapy kasi di ba sa Thailand, sunod-sunod 'yung training namin,” said Laure, who last played for Foton Tornadoes during the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix last December. “Nu’ng (PSL) AFC (All-Filipino Conference) lang siya sobrang na-feel ko 'yung pain ulit.”
For now, Laure has no timetable yet on her return to action.
“Depende pa kasi sa sasabihin ng doctor ko kung kelan pwede, kelan niya ako papayagan,” she said.
