UAAP Season 80 Women's Football: Ateneo, FEU get opening day wins
Martie Bautista was one of three players to score for Ateneo as the Lady Eagles took down UP, 3-1 in the UAAP Season 80 women's football opener, Saturday.
Hostilities in the women's division of the UAAP Season 80 football tournament kicked off Saturday as Ateneo opened the post-Cam Rodriguez era with a 3-1 win over University of the Philippines, while Far Eastern University rallied from a goal down to beat last season's runner-up University of Santo Tomas, 3-1.
Rookie Icee Calimbo and Martie Bautista scored first-half goals for the Lady Eagles before the Lady Maroons pulled one back courtesy of Eloisa Malmis in the 80th minute.
Seconds later, Tessa Bernardo restored her side's two-goal cushion and Ateneo was able to preserve the lead until the final whistle.
In the second match of the day, Lady Tamaraws ace Jovelle Sudaria netted a brace while Jean Kadil scored in stoppage time to cancel out Charisa Lemoran's 16th minute penalty that gave the Tigresses the early lead to give FEU their season-opening victory.
Action in the women’s division resumes on Saturday, February 10th when Ateneo tries to get their second win in the season against UST, who’ll be looking to bounce back, while defending champions De La Salle University will make their season debut against UP.
Ateneo and UST kick off at 9:00 AM, while DLSU and UP get things going at 3:00 PM. Both matches will be held at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
