University of Santo Tomas continued their hot start in the UAAP Season 80 men’s football tournament, as they took down Adamson University, 3-0, Thursday morning at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Dexter Benecio got things going for the Growling Tigers in the 16th minute to give the Espanya-based squad a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Benecio then picked up where he left off, scoring in the 47th minute to double UST’s advantage.
Marvin Bricenio, who was coming off a hat trick in UST’s opening day win over Far Eastern University, put the match on ice, scoring in the 67th minute for the three-nil lead.
The Soaring Falcons could not come up with any offense of their own, as UST held on for the shutout win.
“Maganda yung preparation namin, for one year, sa pre-season nag-champion kami,” said the graduating Bricenio regarding UST’s impressive start. “Gusto naming umabot sa championship, kaya gusto ko goal o mag-assist man lang para makatulong sa team.”
The senior has scored four times in UST’s first two outings and says that he’s ready to go all out in his final tour of duty for UST.
“Syempre graduating ako, gusto ko ito last season, ibubuhos ko makakaya ko.”
The Growling Tigers improve to two wins in as many games, good for six points.
