Rhayyan Amsali and NU are guaranteeing that there will be a Final Four instead of stepladder playoffs
Ateneo de Manila High School is one win away from a clean sweep of the elimination round an automatic advance into the Finals of the UAAP 80 Juniors Basketball Tournament.
Standing in their way is a Nazareth School of National University side which has won all of its last six games.
With that, the Bullpups are nothing but confident that on Sunday, they finally have the answer to the Blue Eaglet riddle which has puzzled the league thus far.
Asked if there will be a Final Four instead of stepladder playoffs, NU ace Rhayyan Amsali said, “Opo. Magkaka-Final Four po.”
A Final Four will take place if the Bullpups beat Ateneo, thus preventing an elimination round sweep.
In such case, the twice-to-beat Blue Eaglets will take on either University of Sto. Tomas or Adamson High School while likewise twice-to-beat NU will take on Far Eastern University-Diliman.
Conversely, stepladder playoffs will take place if Ateneo defeats the Bullpups and completes an elimination round sweep.
In such case, the Blue Eaglets will go straight into the Finals where they will wait the survivor in successive knockout bouts among NU, FEU-Diliman, and UST or Adamson.
Of course, the Bullpups would rather have a Final Four instead of stepladder playoffs.
And they have full faith they can make it happen. “Kaya naman po basta tulungan lang kami. Kayang-kaya naman po naming matalo ang Ateneo,” Amsali said.
In the first round meeting between the Bullpups and Ateneo, the latter dominated 64-49.
This time around, Amsali said they will be more prepared than ever. “Mas gagandahan pa namin yung gagawin namin against Ateneo,” he promised.
