Ateneo out to end drought, UST wants back-to-back wins
Ateneo de Manila University hopes to stop a two-game slump.

Struggling Ateneo de Manila University looks to avoid falling deeper into its worst start in more than a decade when the Lady Eagles face a surging University of Sto. Tomas side Sunday in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The rebuilding Lady Eagles were off on the wrong foot, dropping their first two matches – Ateneo’s worst since a 1-2 start in Season 69.

Ateneo will try to stop its bleeding at 4:00 p.m. in the duel that will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.

The Lady Eagles absorbed sorry back-to-back five-set losses including a 19-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-12, 7-15, defeat over National University Wednesday.

But it will take a lot of work for Ateneo to capture the elusive win against a team looking to spark a winning run.

The Tigresses are in a four-way tie at 1-1 slate with Adamson University, University of the Philippines, Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines.

UST bounced back from a five-set loss to defending two-time champion De La Salle University with a dominating 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 demolition of listless University of the East.

The Tigresses will pin their hopes on power-hitter Sisi Rondina, who is averaging 24 points per game, Dimdim Pacres, Tin Francisco and rookie Milena Alessandrini.
