De La Salle University captured its first win in two games after sweeping University of the Philippines.
Arjay Onia waxed-hot on attacks as he led De La Salle University to a sweet bounce back win over University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-23, 25-19, Saturday in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Green Spikers barged in the win column after absorbing a sorry five-set loss to University of Santo Tomas in their season-opener and tied their victim with 1-1 win-loss record in a four-way logjam with three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University and National University.
Onia landed 17 attacks for 19 points while Raymark Woo added 10 points highlighted by eight spikes for DLSU.
"Work in progress kasi yung maturity na ma-attain nila," said Green Spikers coach Norman Miguel.
"After ng game na iyon (against UST), ni-work out namin, technically, yung strong serve, consistent passing and block, which naging effective naman at nanalo kami. Mas natuto silang ma-control ang emotions nila."
John Millete and Wendel Miguel scored 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the Fighting Maroons.
