It’s okay worth it naman eh. Panalo kami and maganda naman yung laro ng team. Everything is good -- DLSU hitter Des Cheng on missing her graduation march
Fourth year De La Salle University star Desiree Cheng missed her graduation march Saturday.
The sacrifice was all worth it as she and the grand slam-seeking Lady Spikers walked away with a big win over University of the Philippines.
Cheng finished with 10 points in DLSU’s 25-21, 25-22, 26-24, sweep of the Lady Maroons to climb up to a share of the lead in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Taft-based squad collected its second straight win in as many outings and tied National University for the lead.
“It’s okay worth it naman eh,” said Cheng, who finished her Sports Management course. “Panalo kami and maganda naman yung laro ng team. Everything is good.”
Cheng missed the graduation rites held at PICC but felt that the win served as a graduation gift.
“Double celebration na siya actually. Nanalo kami and it’s my graduation,” she said. “Yung win talaga.”
“Kung natalo kami malaking pagalit kay coach (Ramil de Jesus) siyempre ayaw niya mangyari yun.”
Asked why she decided to play instead of attending her own graduation, Cheng said that she’s just focused on helping DLSU.
“Obviously, it’s priorites talaga,” said Cheng. “Priority ko yung volleyball ngayon kasi it’s UAAP pero siyempre kung ibang liga, maybe magma-march nalang ako.”
Cheng didn’t mind missing the march for she still has a chance to do so when she completes her Master’s Course in Marketing.
“And okay lang since I’m taking my masters ngayon, so doon ko nalang ilo-look forward,” she said. “Doon nalang ako magma-march. It’s okay talaga. No big deal.”
Carmel Saga also missed her graduation march but as Cheng said, it’s all worth it.
