The DLSU Green Archers have won their first two matches in the UAAP Season 80 Men's Football Tournament
Two matches in, two wins out for the rejuvenated De La Salle Green Archers as they picked up their second straight win after shooting down the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 2-0, Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in UAAP Season 80 Men’s Football action.
It was a dominant performance on the Green Archers’ part, who controlled the tempo of the match from horn to horn, but it was their finishing that appeared to be a problem in the first 45 minutes of action.
While the Green Archers managed to push the offense and get a handful of shots off, they just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net as the scoreboards remained unaltered heading into halftime
It wasn’t until the 72nd minute that DLSU finally got their shots to go in, as substitute Christian Zubiri gave the Green Archers their first point of the match.
It didn’t take long for the Taft-based side to double up, as sophomore Marcus Garcia easily tipped the ball in to make it a two-nil advantage.
Apart from those two conversions in that two-minute stretch for DLSU, Adamson keeper Carl Viray was on point, as he managed to deny a number of DLSU’s attempts.
“A win is a win,” said DLSU head coach Hans Smit after the match, “But that doesn’t mean that I’m happy with the game. We lacked in the attack, we were doing well in the defense, in the midfield, but especially in the first half, they just softened up, they slowed down in the attacking third.”
“I had to make some changes, and the guys that came off the bench did their jobs,” Smit added.
With the win, the Green Archers join UP and UST at the top with two wins in two matches for six points.
Adamson on the other hand, drops to two losses in two matches for zero points in the season.
