National University sweeps University of the East to get back on the winning track.
National University demolished University of the East, 25-14, 25-19, 25-12, Sunday to get back in the win column of the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Bulldogs bounced back from a four-set defeat against three-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila University last Wednesday to move up to a three-way tie at 2-1 win-loss record with the Blue Eagles and University of Sto. Tomas.
Fauzi Ismail and national team mainstay Bryan Bagunas led the way for NU, which rained down 42 attack points to punish the defense of the Red Warriors while putting up a solid net defense to score 10 kill blocks.
Ismail scored 18 points with 15 coming off kills and Bagunas finished with 17 markers he collected from 11 spikes, three kill blocks and three service aces while picking up 14 excellent receptions.
UE’s woes continued as it fell to its third straight loss and ninth in a row since last season.
Clifford Inoferio was the only Red Warrior in double figures with 10 points while Kim Adriano and skipper Geric Ortega combined for 11 markers.
