Adamson University barged in the win column after coming back from a set down to repel University of the Philippines.
After a bad start to open its campaign, Adamson University rediscovered its form and pulled off a morale-boosting come-from-behind, 22-25, 26-24, 25-16, 25-19, win over University of the Philippines Wednesday in the 80th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament.
The Falcons handed the Fighting Maroons a heartbreak on Valentine’s Day as Adamson U exited the FilOil Flying V Centre with a 1-2 win-loss record in a three-way logjam with their victim and De La Salle University.
Paolo Pablico and Leo Miranda led Adamson’s fourth set rampage after the Falcons turned the tables around with a tough second set win after yielding the opening frame.
Miranda, who scored 15 points anchored on 12 kills, bannered the San Marcelino-based squad’s 5-0 scoring blitz that gave Adamson a 22-16 cushion capped by his service ace to pull away after UP breathed down the Falcons’ necks, 17-16, midway in the fourth.
Pablico paced Adamson with 23 points including 21 off kills while Royce Bello got 12. Skipper Philip Yude and Carlo Jimenez chipped in with 10 points each for the Falcons, who rained down 62 attack points to punish the defense of UP and 10 kill blocks to frustrate the Maroons’ attackers.
Wendel Miguel finished with 16 points, John Millete had 14 while team captain Jerry San Pedro got 12 for the Diliman-based squad, which absorbed its second straight loss after opening their campaign with a sweep of University of the East.
