Grand slam-seeking De La Salle University tries to extend its winning run to three for a share of the lead.
Defending two-time champion De La Salle University is not taking Far Eastern University lightly as they seek to move to a share of the lead in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan Wednesday.
Fresh off a character-building straight sets victory over University of the Philippines last Saturday, the Lady Spikers look to join solo leader National University (3-0) at the top spot in their 4:00 p.m. match against the Lady Tamaraws.
The showdown will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166, LIGA on SkyCable Channel 86, LIGA HD on SkyCable Channel 183 and via livestream.
Down, 21-24, in the third set of its duel with UP, the Taft-based squad showed its composure as the Lady Spikers sparked a closing 5-0 rally capped by sophomore setter Michelle Cobb’s three straight service aces to steal the win, 25-21, 25-22, 26-24.
FEU, on the other hand, is coming off a 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 12-15, loss last Saturday at the hands of Adamson University.
DLSU head coach Ramil De Jesus braces for a tough battle ahead.
“Isa pa rin ‘yun (FEU) kasi sabi ko nga sa inyo lahat ng teams very competitive, even ‘yung Adamson hindi mo akalaing nanalo pero nanalo,” said De Jesus. “So kailangan talaga paghandaan lahat ng teams so ano eh lahat kasi hindi mo masasabi na kayang-kaya namin ‘to, lahat kailangan talagang paghandaan.”
The Lady Spikers will bank on Cobb, reigning Most Valuable Player Majoy Baron, Tin Tiamzon, Kim Kianna Dy, Des Cheng and seasoned libero Dawn Macandili against the crack Lady Tams crew led by Bernadeth Pons, Toni Basas, Celine Domingo, Jeanette Villareal and Jerrili Malabanan.
