UAAP Season 80 softball: Lady Falcons sweep 1st round, Tigresses, Lady Maroons prevail
The Lady Falcons now carry a pristine 6-0 record heading into the second round.Defending seven-time champion Adamson University overcame a slow start to score a 14-4 win over University of the East and complete a first round sweep in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament Thursday at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium.
Taking over from starting pitcher Princess Jurado after the third inning, Lyca Basa held the Lady Warriors scoreless in the last four frames to help the Lady Falcons remain perfect in six contests.
Basa has also struck out seven UE batters.
Adamson University's hitting also went into full gear midway in the game, as Jeanette Rusia belted her third home run of the season, while Flor Pabiania tallied four RBIs.
Rusia slammed a three-run homer in the fourth inning that gave the Lady Falcons a 6-2 lead.
Adamson then scored two more runs in the fifth and added six in the seventh to seal the deal.
In other games, University of Santo Tomas beat De La Salle University, 7-0, in just six innings to finish its first round campaign with a 4-2 record, while the University of the Philippines edged National University, 3-2, in extra innings.
The Lady Maroons will enter the second round tied with the Lady Warriors and the Lady Bulldogs from third to fifth spots at 3-3, while the Lady Batters fell in sixth place with a 2-4 card.
