UAAP VOLLEYBALL: Adamson not a pushover team anymore
Our team is not just like a pushover team like we were last year -- Adamson coach Air Padda

Adamson University head coach Air Padda prides herself with the Lady Falcons’ growth as a team just two years since she took over.

A bottom-dweller during her debut last year, Adamson is living up to its billing as a dark horse in the 80th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.

The Lady Falcons doubled their win output in Season 79 with a clinical, 25-9, 27-25, 25-20, drubbing of University of the Philippines Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“I think it shows that there's been growth in our program, and our team is not just like a pushover team like we were last year,” said Padda, who took over the post after Sherwin Meneses left the squad midway in Season 78. “We can actually compete.”

Adamson is now perched at solo third spot behind league-leading National University and grand slam-seeking De La Salle University, which are both undefeated in three games.

After dropping a four-set contest against National University in their season-opener, the Lady Falcons went on a roll against Final Four contenders.

Adamson outlasted Far Eastern University in five-sets with graduating player Jema Galanza exploding with 26 points.

Against the Lady Maroons, the Lady Falcons were sharp at the service line unleashing 17 aces with returning opposite hitter Mylene Paat hitting eight including six in a tone-setting first set domination of Adamson.

The Lady Falcons also showed composure down the stretch in the second frame to repel the repeated comeback attempts of UP before finishing of the Lady Maroons to end the victory in 79 minutes.

“You know, it's a huge accomplishment,” said Padda, whose team defeated UP for the first time since the second round of Season 77. “I mean, it feels good.”

“Obviously, last year was really, really, really, really, really rough for us, and only winning one game, um, it was hard,” she added. “And so, getting our second win in UAAP Season 80... like you said we've already exceeded our record of last year, but ... It just feels good.”

Adamson U will take on University of Sto. Tomas on Sunday.
