Goldwyn Monteverde is taking his talents to Recto

The University of the East will not let itself get left behind by the rest of the UAAP.

With five member-schools having retained their head coaches and two member-schools already having named new tacticians, the Recto-based school is finally poised to welcome the next man to guide its return to relevance.

According to several sources, the Red Warriors will now be under Goldwyn Monteverde.

The development was first reported by Reuben Terrado of spin.ph.

The new mentor and his new wards have already been introduced to one another earlier in the week, as per a source.

Monteverde made his name in the high school ranks, leading Chiang Kai Shek to multiple titles as well Adamson High School and Nazareth School of National University to contention.

Along with his on-court results, he also has an impressive track record in terms of player recruitment and development with the likes of Gerry Abadiano, John Galinato, Encho Serrano, Carl Tamayo, and Jonas Tibayan having blossomed under his tutelage.

At present, the master recruiter is overseeing the campaign of the Bullpups who are second-seeded and remain as the biggest threats to undefeated Ateneo de Manila High School.

It is yet to be determined what will happen with his post in NU.

UE has been searching for a new head coach after former mentor Derrick Pumaren handed in his resignation late last year.

Pumaren registered a record of 21-35 in his four years at the helm for his alma mater.

He leaves behind a lineup that needs improvement in virtually every area, but will welcome back scoring dynamo Alvin Pasaol as well as court general Philip Manalang.
