Despite having trouble with the UE Lady Warriors the Lady Eagles had more than enough firepower to win in four sets Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
Don't look now but Ateneo has recovered from its 0-2 start in the UAAP Season 80 women's volleyball tournament.
Despite having trouble with the UE Lady Warriors, the Lady Eagles had more than enough firepower to win in four sets Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
Ateneo bucked a slow start to take a 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-14 decision, improving to 2-2 for the year.
The Lady Eagles looked slow in the early moments as the Lady Warriors quickly took advantage to take an early 1-0 lead.
However, Ateneo quickly provided an answer in the second set to tie things up before surviving a game UE side in the third to finally turn the table.
By the fourth set, the Lady Eagles finally looked like their old selves, smashing UE in convincing fashion.
Jho Maraguinot led the Ateneo offense with 20 points, 17 from attacks, while team captain Maddie Madayag added 12 points with five blocks.
Bea De Leon also finished in double figures with 10 points.
"Parang sobrang tense sa loob," Madayag said on her team's poor start.
"I don't think they knew what to do. Wala sa focus. Tapos everybody was like 'oh my gosh' and parang hindi na sila happy. Kailangan lang talaga namin mag-enjoy," she added.
As for UE, Shaya Adorador scored 14 and Mary Ann Mendrez added another 12 but unfortunately, the team still couldn't break through for this season.
The Lady Warriors dropped to 0-4 in Season 80.
